Driving and parking

In Finland, roads are generally in good condition. There are motorways between the main cities, where the speed limit is higher. In winter, roads can be very slippery, so it is a good idea to make sure you change your car’s winter tyres in good time. There are restrictions on when winter and summer tyres can be used. Winter tyres should be used if the weather conditions require it during November, Christmas, January, February and March.
Motor vehicle parking is regulated, especially in city centres. Parking may be limited in time, often requiring the use of a parking disc showing the time of arrival. In city centres, parking may also be subject to a charge. Payment is most commonly made via a phone app. Always check the details of the parking space carefully to avoid a parking error charge.
