
Sport and physical activity
In the Kotka and Hamina regions and in Kymenlaakso, you can do a wide range of sports. Good cycle paths, fitness trails, footpaths and parks provide a framework for outdoor activities. Swimming pools, gyms, gymnasiums, sports groups, indoor and outdoor playing fields offer a wide range of sports activities.

Kotka
Arto Tolsa Arena
Arto Tolsa Arena is a football stadium in the heart of Kotkansaari and a central part of the city’s sporting history. For decades, the stadium has been the home ground of KTP and the venue for many football clubs and local matches in Kotka. The stadium has a capacity of around 4,800 spectators. The Arto Tolsa Arena’s heated and fully floodlit artificial grass pitch and grandstands are suitable for matches and events all year round. The facilities include changing rooms, junior and secondary pitches for summer and winter use.
Steveco Arena
Karhuvuori Sports Hall, or Steveco Areena, is a sports and events centre in Karhuvuori, Kotka. The arena is known for home games of KTP Basket and Peli-Karhut. The grandstands can seat about 1300 spectators. The sports hall also serves fairs, events and active people with its modern gym. The facilities include a ball hall, a cafeteria, several training rooms, changing rooms and saunas, and the gym is open every day from morning to evening. The gym is accessible with a pass, which can be purchased at the Ruori service point or at the swimming pools.
Jylpy Hall
Jylpy Hall in Kotka is a ballroom with a floorball court, goals and height-adjustable basketball stands. The facilities are booked in advance for your own training sessions via the Timmi booking calendar and access is by access card. There are two changing rooms with washrooms and equipment facilities.
Katariina’s Skate Park
Katariina skate park is a skate park built of concrete, stone and asphalt. It has a pool-like concrete structure with a parkour track and a 38 m long pump track. The track is mainly for bicycles, but can also be used with a kickboard, skateboard, roller skates or even a wheelchair. The skate park is located in the outdoor and park area of Katariina’s Marine Park.
Katariina’s Bathing Pool
Kotka Swimming Pool Katariina on Kotkansaari offers a 25-metre pool, a rehabilitation pool and children’s pools, and there are reserved sessions for water sports. The pool has diving boards both indoors and in the in-ground pool, which also has a 50-metre pool. Activities are divided into standard and open swimming. The swimming pool has a gym, a cafeteria and separate changing rooms, showers and saunas for men and women.
Karhula Swimming Pool
The Karhula swimming pool offers a 25-metre pool, a cold-water pool, a children’s pool and diving boards. Activities are divided into standard and open swimming. The pool also offers guided aquatic exercise classes. There are separate changing, shower and sauna facilities for men and women, and a cafeteria.
Karhula Martial Arts Centre
Karhula Martial Arts Centre in Kotka is a martial arts training facility with wrestling molskis, two tatami areas, changing and shower facilities. The centre is part of the Karhu Campus sports centre, which is connected to the school and sports facilities.
Karhula central field
Karhula’s central arena is the main arena for athletics in Kotka. Its facilities include a covered grandstand with changing and washing facilities and a cafeteria building. There is also a games arena, a basketball court, a gym, a fitness centre and a floodlit artificial turf field with a skating rink and a bowling alley in winter. American football goals and a scoreboard are available on the pitch, and a sand track around the athletics field is used for skiing in winter and can also be used during the thaw.
Karhula sports hall
Karhula Sports Hall in Kotka offers a ballroom, a gym suitable for extra training and five changing rooms. The hall also has a 300-seat folding grandstand and a scoreboard. During the day it is used by schools and in the evenings by sports clubs in Kotka, such as basketball, volleyball, martial arts and fitness clubs.
Koivula Golf Park
Koivula Golf Park is an easily accessible 9-hole par 3 golf course in Kotka, where you can play golf or football golf without a green card or an appointment. The course is suitable for beginners and more experienced players alike. Playing times are inexpensive or you can purchase a season ticket if you wish.
Kotka ice rinks
Kotka Energia Arena is a rink in Karhula and the home ground of Titans, where ice hockey is played at the Finnish league level. The arena also serves other ice sports clubs. The grandstands can accommodate about 2000 spectators. In addition to ice sports events, the Energia Arena can also host trade fairs and concerts, and cafeteria and bar services are available for spectators during matches. There is also a training hall next to the arena. The ice rinks are free of charge for public use.
Kotka Sports Centre
The Kotka Sports Centre in Aittakorpi offers sports services for people of all ages and abilities. The centre offers a gym for men and women, a gymnastics and spinning hall, ball games such as squash, volleyball, indoor football, badminton and group exercise classes. After training, you can continue to the sauna on demand or to the Sport Pub Marlon pub area.
Kotka Tennis Hall
The Ball Games Centre in Ruonala, Kotka, is a comfortable place to play tennis, padel, badminton, table tennis and billiards, and to work out in the gym. The hall has several indoor and outdoor courts, padel courts and additional services such as rackets and balls that can be booked. The tennis hall is also home to the local Smash Kotka club and provides a good environment for both amateur and professional players.
Kotka Sports Hall
Kotka Sports Hall, or Ruonala Hall, is a sports centre with a running track, a circular track, jumping and throwing areas and an artificial grass pitch for football. The hall also has baseball and badminton fields, a gym and changing rooms. The use of the Kotka Sports Hall is possible during the clubs’ reserved training periods under the supervision of a responsible instructor. The sports hall is also rented out for tournaments and events.
Kymen Golf
Kymen Golf’s Kotka Golf Center is an 18-hole golf course in Mussalo with five different tee settings, making it suitable for players of all levels. Water hazards and challenging greens make for a varied game. The clubhouse has a restaurant, pro shop and changing rooms with saunas. Kymen Golf is one of the oldest golf clubs in Finland.
Mussalo sports hall
Mussalo Sports Hall in Kotka, offers sports facilities from ball games to gymnastics, gym training and shooting sports. The hall is designed to serve both fitness and competitive athletes, and its facilities are well suited to both everyday and recreational use. The gym is accessible with a pass, which can be purchased at the Ruori service point or at the swimming pools.
Padel Kotka
Padel Kotka offers three LED-lit, World Padel Tour-approved outdoor padel courts on Kotkansaari, close to the sea. Equipment, guidance and cold drinks after the games are also available on site. The kiosk at the A-rights is open from 16-20 in the afternoons, subject to weather conditions.
Santalahti Resort
In Kotka Santalahti you can exercise all year round. The area has a golf course, a frisbee golf course, a miniature golf course, beach and nature trails for hiking, a beach volleyball court and a beach. In summer, you can try SUP boarding and kayaking, and in winter you can cycle, ski or snowshoe in the area. Santalahti resort also organises rafting and fishing trips on the Kymijoki River.
Outdoor gyms
Kotka has several free outdoor gyms where you can train your muscles, balance and mobility outdoors with different equipment or fitness equipment. Outdoor gyms are located in places such as Puistola and the yard of the Central School in Kotkansaari and the Sunila local sports ground.

Hamina
Frisbee golf Hamina
Hamina has several frisbee golf courses throughout the city, offering outdoor exercise for those interested in disc golf. Ruissalo Frisbee Golf Park is an 18-hole A2 course in the Ruissalo Sports Centre. There is also an 18-lane New Summa, a 12-lane Neuski’s B1 frisbee golf course and two 9-lane courses in Metsäkylä and Pyhällö. All courses are open to the public without any extra charge.
Hamina Ice Rink
The Hamina Ice Rink is located in the Ruissalo Sports Centre, with an ice rink suitable for ice hockey, curling and general skating. It has about 500 seats and 300 standing seats in the grandstand, changing rooms, showers, equipment drying and maintenance facilities, and skates can be rented on site. The rink is also used for public skating and matches, in addition to booked shifts.
Hamina Sports Hall
The Hamina Sports Hall is the city’s indoor sports centre in the centre of Hamina, where you can play ball sports and organise exercise sessions for different groups. The hall also has a grandstand, a hall of mirrors, a gym and ancillary facilities such as a meeting room, which serve both fitness enthusiasts and club training sessions. The facilities are available by reservation and the gym is accessible via the Asio service.
Hamina sports field
The Hamina sports field is an athletics field with running tracks, and throwing facilities for javelin, discus and sledge hammer, as well as ball throwing, high jump and pole vault. There is also a cafeteria, junior grass courts, a beach volleyball court with changing rooms and toilets.
Fortress Swimming Pool
The Fortress Swimming Pool in Hamina offers a 25-metre pool, educational and multi-purpose pools and a cold pool, and there are reserved sessions for water sports. The pool has a gym and an outdoor pool area, subject to weather conditions. Activities are divided into standard and open swims, and there are separate changing, shower and sauna facilities for men and women.
Neuvoton sports hall
The sports hall in Neuvoton is a hall connected to the school, where you can practise indoor sports in various disciplines. The hall also has a small upstairs grandstand and a kitchen recess. The sports hall is used for teaching in schools and, through bookable shifts, for training by local groups and enthusiasts.
Baseball stadium Vallikenttä
In Hamina, baseball is played at Vallikenttä, a baseball stadium on the northern edge of the city and the home ground of Hamina Ball Club. The grandstands can accommodate around 3000 spectators. The field is used for both men’s and women’s matches and is the main baseball pitch in Hamina.
Rauhankatu Mass Field
You can play tennis on the Rauhankatu tennis court in Hamina for free or with reserved shifts during the summer season. Reservations are handled through the Hamina’s Asio Service.
Ruissalo Martial Arts and Sports Centre
The Ruissalo Martial Arts and Sports Centre is a sports centre in Hamina’s Ruissalo, with facilities for martial arts, ball games and a gym. The facilities also host matches and events. The Ruissalo Sports Centre also includes an ice rink, a ball field, an outdoor velodrome, a grass field, a shooting range, a cross-country skiing stadium, a mountain bike/track running track, a frisbee golf course, bicycle tracks and floodlit trails. Bookings are made through the Hamina’s Asio service.

Pyhtää
Huutjärvi sports hall
The Huutjärvi Sports Hall is a sports facility in Huutjärvi, Pyhtää, used by schools and clubs. The municipality also organises free group exercise classes in the hall.
Pyhtää Arena
Pyhtää Areena is Pyhtää’s sports centre, where you can use the gym and play ball games such as volleyball, volleyball, badminton, pickleball and indoor padel. The sports centre also offers free group exercise classes for the municipality.

Virolahti
Frisbee golf Virolahti
Virolahti has two 18-hole frisbee golf courses. Virojoki forest track at Lapinvuori sports track and Klamila forest track near the fishing harbour. Both tracks are open to the public without separate charge.
Kaakon Golf
Kaakon Golf is a nine-hole golf course located on the Virojoki river in Virolahti. The course’s three par-3 holes are among the most spectacular par-threes in Finland, and there is a range and short game area for practice. The club also has a café and Olkihattu restaurant.
Klamila gym
The Klamila gym is equipped with compressed air equipment. The gym also has small equipment and other fitness equipment such as dumbbells, power bars, kettlebells, balance pads and a punching bag.

Myllylammi outdoor recreation and leisure area
The Myllylammi outdoor recreation area in Miehikkälä is a versatile outdoor recreation area centred on a sandy beach by the pond with a jumping tower and pontoon platform. The area has an 18-hole frisbee golf course, a nature gym, a fitness track and a nature trail, and is suitable for hiking, swimming and outdoor activities in different seasons. All services are free of charge.
